HELP! Sims 2 Not Loading?!

    Hi!
    When I start sims 2 the ea games and maxis logo appear and then the video plays, then the loading screen appears after a matter of seconds, the music skips and a popup appears and says "the application has crashed. the application will now terminate"

    Do I need more RAM or a better video card?:
    At the moment I have

    AMD Athlon 2000+
    256mb RAM
    GeForce 2 MX400 (64mb)
    25gb Free Space

    Bye the way I have updated my video an sound drivers (I know the video ones are right but I'm not sure if the sound river is right...Plays sound though..)
