This is not my machine so I will tell you what comes up on the machine.

When you boot up it goes through post then the screen states this:

Windows could not start beacause the following file is missing or corrupt:

\window\system32\config\system.

You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows set up using the original setup CD-Rom.
You can select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

Can this be fixed by using the XP disk?
Its a A-BIT AV8 MoBo and it gives me a Code that states-

FF Boot Atempt (INT 19h)

put their windows xp disc in the pc and boot from it, run a repair install by pressing R as it says then it will repair the corrupted files

It's a good idea to test that the Drive isn't failing, or you'll be wasting your time.

Download & run the manufacturers Diagnostic utility - ie, Seagate Seatools, WD, WD DLG etc etc.

If it passes the test, often a CHKDSK /r will repair it {boot from Windows CD, select Recovery Console, and type that command.

I talked him into a new hard drive being the one he has is over 3 years old. I am going to try to repair as said above to get some of his pics out.
