Hi All! Expertise needed for directx9.0c

Not open for further replies.
I am new to this forum and I'm not technically knowledgable with computers so please bare with me.

I've seen similar threads relating to this issue but I think that my problem may be unlike the ones talked about before.

I have the sims2 installed and running on my computer. I've recently purchased the Sims2 Pet Stories. When I go to do the install, its asks me to enter my code, and then to accept the terms of agreement. All of which I do and then a message pops up saying that I need to install directx9.0c and gives me the website to go to, to install it.

I've installed directx9.0c and I've reinstalled it. I've run the dxdiag and it shows that I have directx9.0c. I'm at a loss.

I want to include something just incase it could interfere with whats going on with the installation of the game. I had made the mistake of allowing a friend to borrow my laptop. He chose to surf the web without any spyware or firewall and my computer was loaded with adware, trojans, etc. After receiving my computer back it ran incredibly slow so I purchase spyware software and also a firewall. I've cleaned everything out of my computer through the scans (and believe me there was a lot), and I even ran my computer on safe mode and did a full scan of my computer. It runs faster and I believe I have everything running normal agian.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hello christine21486,
download, install and run Everest. I'll provide you a link. This will give us and you, an idea of what your system is made up of...

I am going to tell you to upgrade your video drivers once I see what you have. Here's the Everest download:

sorry so late

i dont have access to the internet at home so I'm sorry its taken so long for me to reply. I have to find time to get out to a panera or something to get access with this computer. I followed the link you gave and it said that it had discontinued its production. I'm going to copy and paste what my directx diag. has on it and hopefully that can tell you something.

Since you asked about the video driver I cut it off at the display.
If I do need new drivers, is it something that I can get easily with a laptop? Can I download something or do I need to purchase and physically install it myself? Thanks in advance for your help!

The only problem I see is your video card driver is very old (from 2004). You might go to www.amd.com and dowload the latest driver for your ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9000/9100 Integrated Graphics Processor. I checked the site and couldn't find a driver specifically for your chip. Maybe you'll have better luck than I did. I don't have much experience with laptops, but if you download the driver and it will not work with your machine it should not install itself.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
1300 MHz processor
256 MB RAM (512 MB RAM is recommended if you are running with a few expansion packs installed)
Windows(R) Vista, Windows XP, Windows ME, Windows 98 or Windows 2000 Operating System.
At least 1.5 GB of additional hard drive space (5.0 GB total is required if installing both The Sims 2 and The Sims 2 Pets Expansion Pack at the same time.)
A T&L-capable video card with at least 32 MB of video RAM.

Supported video cards:
ATI Radeon(TM) series (8500 or better)
8500, All-In-Wonder 8500
9000, 9200, 9500, 9600, 9700, 9800
X300, X600, x700, X800, x850
X1300, X1600, X1800, X1900, X1950
NVIDIA(R) Quadro(TM) series
Quadro, Quadro2, Quadro4

NVIDIA GeForce series (GeForce2 GTS and better)
GeForce 2, 2 GTS
GeForce 3, 3 Ti
GeForce 4, 4 Ti, 4200, 4600, 4800, MX 420, 440, 460
GeForce FX 5200, 5500, 5600, 5700, 5800, 5900, 5950
GeForce PCX 5300, 5900
GeForce 6200, 6600, 6800
GeForce 7300, 7600, 7800, 7900, 7950
S3 GammaChrome
S18 Pro
S18 Ultra Intel(R) Extreme Graphics (see note below)
82865, 82915 and above

NOTE: If you have a non-T&L capable video card, such as Intel Extreme Graphics, then you need at least a 2.4 GHz processor.

The only problem I saw that was not stated above was the game will not work in Windows Vista with your video chip, but I suspect that you have Windows XP installed.

This link is to an updated driver but it is from 2005 and is still very old.

Here is a nice link to help you determine if a newer ATI driver is compatible with your hardware. Click on the Installation Verification Software link and download/install/run the software.

I found this just a few minutes ago in this thread.

"DirectX can't find compatible graphics adapter
Reason behind this, is that the games needs the DX9's 3D component to work. Some graphics cards/adapters lacks this, and thats why it won't work. In this case, if the driver fix below doesn't fix it, then you will need to get a proper graphics card, update the drivers (if possible) or upgrade your existing one. Post a new thread if you need help choosing a new card, or want more information about this. Check if you have it/can enable it:
- Go to Start>Run>dxdiag
- Go to Display Tab (or Display 1, Display x if you run multiple monitor setups) and find where it says Direct X Features
- Click Enable for each one, if not grayed out. If gray, then your card doesn't support it, so its time to look into why..."

Everest download is still there. Click on on of the american flags... but we really don't need it now. Welcome back

Your laptop is an HP Presario R3000 (PF135UA#ABA) and your video is a ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9000/9100 IGP Integrated Graphics Processor.

The Graphics Driver is ATI M9/M something... download and install the driver:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=442914&lang=en

See Cinders you beat me here this time. I really doubt if AMD/ATI will have a newer driver for this laptop than the HP site I linked to
