Hi - No Mixer Devices Available Problem

I have a IBM T40 with WINDOWS XP Professional series. I have tried every suggestion I can find on the internet and none have worked...including system32 which is in the right C:'WINDOWS' folder and fine. For some reason the audio service has stopped and I can't start it through msconfig or other.

Can you offer any suggestions?

This Is Not A Newbie Problem

I have no idea how to reinstall as each manufacturer has their own particular drivers. I need a tech guy to help please!!!

I did a Belarc Advisor analysis... I have: SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio

OK...so I found the audio driver from IBM support (1ga241ww.exe). I installed it again and rebooted. STILL NOTHING! I am going out of my mind! What else can it be???

I even have gone to Windows Audio Properties (local computer) and it is on 'automatic'. I pressed START...it comes back and says 'The plug and play service or another required service is not available' or 'The dependency service or group is not available'!

WHAT THE heck is going on??? I am an IT professional...I cant believe this is malfunctioning beyond my repair!
