Hi please help with sony vivoPCV-RX370DS

hi i bought this computer for a family member and trying to troubleshoot and hopefully with some help be able to help a family member upgrade from his gateway
p3 400 mhz

ok it came with no hard drive
i am getting one as we speak
can a computer turn on and display general info with no hd? or if i get a hd do i have flas bios ? here is the linky to sony site

also i noticed it has this video card instead of the listed on the site

basically i am at this point going to get hd tommorow, it powers up and seems fine
i get a blank monitor screen , is that because i do not have a hd ? or might it be video problem , or is there a way to some basic troubleshooting at this point ?

When you get the hard drive you will have to boot the computer from a CD with the Operating System like XP Professional, to install the operating system on the new drive before you can use it

it has to have a hard drive to display any info ?

If you get absolutely nothing on the monitor, it has nothing to do with the hard drive. Does the motherboard have on-board or on-chip video? If it does, you might be able to unplug the computer and remove the motherboard battery for a few minutes. Put the battery back in and power up the computer. If you still get no video, the motherboard might be bad

If you have no video at all, what makes you think that the video card is working? Do you have video or not?
