High-end Mac versus gaming PC

Hi,

I reviewed the forum but could not find exactly what I was looking for. I am a computer user not a builder. I am considering a high end Mac

  • 3.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
  • 32GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 4X8GB
  • 3TB Fusion Drive
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB GDDR5
This is like $3.3k USD. Will I get as much out of this as say a high end alien ware desktop? I am a geezer and prefer the Mac for the all in one design and aesthetics. I usually keep my Mac's for about 5 years then get a new one. Given I'm not price sensitive and my concerns, will I get as good a gaming experience on this as I would a high end gaming PC?

Thanks

The higher resolution of the iMac will mean you definitely won't be able to max out all games. Also, there's not many games to start with - Steam is probably your best resource here.

I, along with anyone else here, cannot recommend an iMac for you, unless:
- You desperately need OSX.
- You need an All-in-one form factor for some unknown reason.

$3.3K is laughably-high, and more than enough to buy parts and pay someone to build it for you. For comparison, $800 parts (<$1000 including building fee) will demolish the above iMac in gaming.
