High Pitch CPU Fan Noise

  1. I recently loked at a friends PC that would occasionally make a high pitch 'whiring' noise. First I thought it was simply running too fast, however after I went into the BIOS and turned the fan control to run parrallel to the CPU load, which did slow the fan speed, it still made the noise. Anyone else experience this on a Pentium D 3.2GHz?

Most likely a dud fan. Try replace with a decent aftermarket HSF. This will not only improve cooling, but you should be able to get a nice one running at a lower speed.

Eg. I have a Tt Big Typhoon which runs between 1300-2000RPM and is almost whisper quite even at full speed. (though ambient noise is high), it also does a bloody good job of cooling. So its definitely worth considering as a cheap investment.
