How to burn alot of mpeg-2 avi's directly to dvd5?

Depends on your DVD Player {you mean the Set Top one, I assume}, some will play almost anything, others - generally the older ones - only like a few formats.
You could try just burning it as a "Data" DVD and see if it works, but you'll probably have to select "Make your own DVD Video" in Nero. It will encode it so it works on most DVD players, and you can add Menu's etc. It can take a while if the format needs to be changed, but that ought to do the trick.
