How to use in built laptop mic

i have toshiba m35x-s109 laptop. it is written that it has an inbuit mic but i dont know how to use it. i tried recording but nothing records until i connect external mic.
and can you tell me is my notebook has built in irda. on some sites it is written that it has on some it is written that it has no irda port

Laptops come in different configurations. You may or may not have the microphone or the IrDA port. Consult your manual on the locations of these things and see if they are there.

it is not given in manual the location of the mic. and the loacation where irda situated, on that place there is a oval type cut only is this is irda or it is the provision for that please tell me.

Usually there is a dark glass window in front of IrDA transceivers just like TV remotes.
