HP laptop memory question

Hello ladies and gentlemen. My daughter needs a new memory stick for her year old HP laptop. Can anyone here confirm whether HP requires proprietary ram or will generic notebook ram work? Thanks. - Jim

It should accept any type of RAM as long as it is the correct type. RAM vendors such as www.4allmemory.com guarantee your money back if the RAM does not work in the system.

Thanks Nick. The reason I asked is because Dell computers used to use proprietary ram, proprietary power supply to mobo connections, etc.
I didn't know if HP was doing the same thing.

I just upgraded the RAM in my Dell Inspiron Laptop and it works great, and its only like 6 months old so yeah I wouldnt see why iy wouldnt work. I hope I helped

I am in the same predicament as well. I just ordered some from newegg.com and should have by tomorrow. I will let you know how it worked after i install it. Also, if you haven't already done so, check out their site as they are the cheapest and one of the most reliable sites I've found so far.

I also bought mine from Newegg, mine Dell Inspiron takes pc-4200 I think if I remember correcty and the brand of RAM is Bufflao, I noticed a huge perfromance increase. I hope yours works correctly.
