    Hi,

I came by a 'broken' Pavilion ze4500...fixed the monitor, but the battery is just not charging! Maybe it's shagged? Otherwise it's perfect! I heard something about putting the battery in the fridge/freezer...or is that an urban myth. Anyone know how to resurrect a battery or are these laptops prone to battery failure? Computer realises the battery's there

Not battery failure. The battery is probably just not holding charge anymore. With all rechargable devices, you can only charge and discharge a certain amount of times. Just like iPods, the battery gets weaker and weaker with each charge. Eventually the cells on the inside lose charge, you could plug in the ac adapter, wait for it to charge while its turned on, and unplug the ac adapter, the laptop will instantly shut off. Basically you need to buy a new battery once this starts happening.
