hp printer problem on 98

    PLEASE HELP

    I'm trying to get a toshiba satellite pro 490cdt laptop to print to my windows XP HOME desktop the laptop has windows 98 and i have all of the windows 98 drivers and xp drivers on both machines for my hp deskjet 842c it acts like the laptop sent the data over the network but, the printer never gets the signal to print. but, if i use another machine with win 2000 on it the machine prints ok over the network. please help me

    Welcome to TechSpot

    Are all PC's in the SAME workgroup?
    On your XP machine with the printer, open a new user-account with the same userid/password as on the 98-machine.
    Check that file/printer sharing is enabled.
    That should do the trick.
