HP scanner

My parents have recently bought a new scanner. The model is scanjet 200/300. It comes with software you must install. Usually with things like this you put the cd in and it installs automatically (and that's hat it has in the instructions as well) but this time when I insert the CD it gives me option for it (e.g. open folder to view files, open with media player etc) and nothing about a download is said. I looked through the files on the CD and found an exe file which I ran. However, I was unable to open this programs afterwards. There were other exe files in this CD as well. Thank you in advance for any help.
