HTC has always had great build quality, but nowadays who doesn't? I'm still very happy with my HTC Desire Z, even though I don't use it for a newer phone I have. But when things go wrong, that phone still works and still has great battery life.

But honestly, why HTC anymore? Samsung is just so much better. You don't have to go through loops to unlock the kernel and put a recovery. Samsung does a better job updating the Android version of their phones. My old HTC DesireZ runs ICS but not from HTC. If it were up to HTC, it would be stuck on Gingerbread still. My current phone the MyTouch4G Slide is an HTC product and would also be stuck on Gingerbread, if it wasn't for aftermarket roms. That phone requires a scary wire trick just S-OFF the phone. But Samsung phones get updates constantly and do not lock down the device.
