Huawei has revealed that its 2-in-1 MateBook (think Microsoft Surface, Apple iPad Pro competitor) will arrive in the US next month with pricing starting below $700.

First unveiled at Mobile World Congress in February, the 6.9mm thick Huawei MateBook features a 12-inch IPS TFT LCD screen with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440. It’s powered by Intel’s sixth generation Core M processor, up to 8GB of LPDDR3 and your choice of 128GB, 256GB or 512GB of flash-based local storage.

The lightweight 2-in-1 (640 grams / 22.6 ounces) offers a USB 3.0 Type-C port, dual speakers, a five megapixel front-facing camera, 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1. There’s even a Windows Hello-compatible fingerprint reader on the side. Its 33.7Wh battery is said to be good for around 10 hours of standard use.

Pricing starts at $699 for a Core M3 chip with 4GB of RAM and a 128GB solid state drive and scales up to $1,199 for a fully-configured model with Core M5 processor, 8GB of RAM and 512GB of solid state storage. Unfortunately, this only includes the 2-in-1 itself, not its accessories.

The optional MatePen will set you back $59 while the MateBook Portfolio Keyboard will command an additional $129. A separate dock will also be offered for $59. Look for the Huawei MateBook 2-in-1 to arrive on July 11.

"MateBook"

Sounds like one of those cheap foreign knockoffs parents buy instead of the genuine article for their naive children.
