Hulu will soon offer a selection of ad-supported full TV episodes on mobile devices free of charge. The company didn’t specify how many or which shows will be available over mobile but did say they plan to flip the switch for free use this summer.
In a blog post on the matter, Hulu CEO Mark Hopkins said they are seeing greater access to all types of content across the TV industry which allows loyal TV fans to forge deeper connections with their favorite shows. Hulu’s re-imagining of mobile viewing involves giving viewers more access to the content they love, the executive added.
Up to this point, non-paying users have only had access to the site’s free service on the desktop while mobile apps for Android, iOS, Nook, Kindle, Windows Phone and select portable gaming consoles were reserved for customers with a $7.99 per month Hulu Plus subscription.
Hulu also used the blog post to highlight some use statistics, such as the fact that the service is now available on more than 400 million Internet-connected devices in the US. The company also touted the fact that they’ve passed the six million subscriber mark for Hulu Plus.
In terms of original content, Hulu announced they’ve ordered a second season of Deadbeat and revealed premiere dates for second season returns of The Awesomes, Quick Draw and East Los High.
