    using headset and attached mic...
    can I place a normal land-line call
    to a local number and speak as on regular
    phone?

    I have Dell data fax modem dial-up.

    If so- any special needs or steps I take?

    If not..suggest how this can be done
    without a third party involved.

    Thanks
    Cye

    Have you checked your Dell and/or modem CD to see if there is a program there to do that? When I got my Dell, it included a program that allowed you to make calls from the computer using the mic and speakers (or headset). If you don't have the programs, I think you can download a free one from a site like CNet.

    Good Luck!
