Hyperthreading, advantages, disadvantages

I have an Intel Pentium 4 Prescott CPU 3ghz. It has always run as a dual core cpu, but i found out today that the second cpu is virtual, made through hyperthreading. Should i disable hyperthreading and run it as a single? Are the 2 cpu's only 1.5ghz now, or still 3ghz each? I need to know some advantages and disadvantages of hyperthreading. Thanx.

depends on the programs you intend on running. Most will run better with it on, particularly audio-visual and anti-virus type software. Most games until recently ran better on single core, but that is changing.
