I have an older toshiba laptop, and the problem I have with it is that you can turn it on, but it won't boot up. It just has a black screen with the white curser blinking on the top left of the screen. Sometimes, if you hit the enter or escape key, you can hear something buzzing, then it will stop. Any ideas on how to proceed, besides throwing it out? I have some stuff I would like to get to a floppy, so I don't loose it.

Thanks

Richard

Can you get into the BIOS ? Try tapping F1 or Esc as soon as you turn it on.You might be able to set it to boot from the CD,and then use the recovery console on the XP CD.

I can use the bootable disk, and can pull up the help file, but that is all. I get an A prompt, but don't know what to put in there. Any clues on what the thing wants me to put in at the A prompt?

I will give some of that a try. Whats the worst that can happen? It never runs again? Thats what I got now, so I am not out anything.

Thanks.
