I don't know if what I have is a virus. I am having trouble updating all my software, from itunes to avira. I can't access the itunes store I keep getting errors telling me to check my internet connection. But I am having no problem accessing the internet. Certain online games are also not connecting to their servers even though on other computers in my house they have no problem. I followed the "8 steps" but couldn't update Malwarebytes or SuperAnti Spyware. I also couldn't get java to run on my computer. I kept getting an error message. I tried turning off my firewall still no success. Hopefully it simple and I am just not realizing it. But I appreciate the help. Thank You.

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
  • Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
NOTE 1. If Combofix asks you to install Recovery Console, please allow it.
NOTE 2. If Combofix asks you to update the program, always do so.

  • Close any open browsers.
  • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
  • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
  • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.
  • Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Make sure, you re-enable your security programs, when you're done with Combofix.

DO NOT make any other changes to your computer (like installing programs, using other cleaning tools, etc.), until it's officially declared clean!!!

Tried all those steps and I got this message when I tried to open Combo Fix "incompatible OS. Combo fix only works for workstations with Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

Ooops, I'm sorry, you're on 64-bit. Combofix won't work there.

Download OTL to your Desktop.

* Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
* Under the Custom Scan box paste this in:

* Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows: OTL.txt and Extras.txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post them back here.

Those two files are to big, in character length, to paste onto a message. Should I upload them as attachments or paste them in four (two for each log) different posts?

Please download OTC to your desktop. It'll remove most tools and logs we used so far. If any tool, file or folder (belonging to the program we have used) hasn't been deleted, please delete it manually.

  • Double-click OTC.exe to run it. (Vista and 7 users, please right click on OTC and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Click on the CleanUp! button and follow the prompts.
  • You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the Cleanup process, choose Yes. If it doesn't ask you to reboot, restart computer manually.
  • After the reboot all the tools we used should be gone.
  • The tool will delete itself once it finishes.

I've gotten to the Kaspersky step but it says I am missing a java script plugin and when i go to download it I get this message "the installer cannont proceed with current internet connection." That was the same error I got when I tried to update Java as part of the "8 steps". So I cant proceed on the Kaspersky website until I update Java.

Please download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder
  • Run JavaRa.exe (Vista users! Right click on JavaRa.exe, click Run As Administrator), pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
  • Accept any prompts.
  • Open JavaRa.exe again and select Search For Updates.
  • Select Update Using Sun Java's Website then click Search and click on the Open Webpage button. Download and install the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version for your computer.

Note 1: UNCHECK any pre-checked toolbar and/or software offered with the Java update. The pre-checked toolbars/software are not part of the Java update.

Note 2: The Java Quick Starter (JQS.exe) adds a service to improve the initial startup time of Java applets and applications. If you don't want to run another extra service, go to Start > Control Panel > Java > Advanced > Miscellaneous and uncheck the box for Java Quick Starter. Click OK and restart your computer.

Make sure, you download Java installation file and you do not select online installation.

I'm running into the same problem on the Kaspersky website. "please enable browser support for Java and JavaScript."

Drop it...

Please run a free online scan with the ESET Online Scanner

  • Disable your antivirus program
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the ActiveX control to install
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the options Remove found threats and the option Scan unwanted applications is checked
  • Click Scan (This scan can take several hours, so please be patient)
  • Once the scan is completed, you may close the window
  • Use Notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic

Download, and install AVP Tool.
After installation, leave all settings as they're, and simply click on Scan button.
When scan is done, and any objects are found, click on Neutralize all button.
Next, click Reports... button, then Save to file....
Save the file to know location as report.txt.
Open report.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and post it in your next reply.

Post fresh HJT log as well.

NOTE. If the file is very large, please, try to attach it.

BTW, over all these scans, I really didn't see any serious security issues, so your problems are more likely to be caused by something else.
However, let's see AVP scan,

That was my gut feeling that it wasnt a security thing, and I somehow screwed up something else. But lets see downloading AVP now.
