  1. The damn thing is embedded in my system volume informaation forlder, which is usually a hidden folder. When i click it, the folder is apparently empty. However, my antivirus says its there, and its embedded. How do i get rid of it?

Boot into safe mode. See how HERE. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial61.html

Turn off system restore.(XP/ME only) See how HERE. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial56.html

In Windows Explorer, turn on "Show all files and folders, including hidden and system". See how HERE. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial62.html

Then run your virus scanner again.

I also suggest you go and read both these threads by RBS. Follow all the instructions exactly.

How to remove Trojans and its ilk! and How to remove Begin2search / coolwebsearch and other nasties.

Then see. How to post your Hijackthis log-file as an ATTACHMENT.

Only post a HJT log, after doing the above.

    Regards Howard :)

Follow the above instructions, then post a HJT log.

If you do that, we might be able to get your computer cleaned up.

    Regards Howard :)
