Like the title says while taking out an old processor and cleaning off the silicon heat transfer compound on the top of the processor a bit (very small amount, but it still got on one or two pins) got onto the bottom. It has been cleaned off.

Is this processor now dead ??

    Lga775

    Maybe not.
Do you mean it got into the LGA775 socket?
if so then it could simple stopped contac on that or those pins.
Most likely if you put cpu in another MoBo it'll still work.
Though I'm not at all sure how to clean the socket itself...

    OH! thats kewl

You should be able to get that off the pins then,
just do not stick it in the socket until you're certain it's cleaned!
I don't recommend using "silicon heat transfer compound"
Artic silver thermal is much better....imho

    Thermal Paste

Shouldnt be a problem if you cleaned it. I know if you get some on the motherboard, it doesnt hurt it, since the compound doesnt conduct very well.
    You're good.
