I Played 3 Hours of Dragon Age: Inquisition and It's Awesome

I still won't be buying an EA game.

Vegeta from EA: Maybe, if you were planning not to buy five-hundred copies of Dragon Age: Inquisition, you might have an advantage. But one? We don't even feel it...

Lot's of negative comments about EA. However, I think I'm going to give this game the benefit of the doubt. A new game means new ideas (at least to some extent). I was pretty disappointed with Destiny and Elder Scroll Online but I think it's worth trying a game out before making strong assumptions about it. Personally, this review got my really excited.

I am really excited about this game but I just won't have it if I can only play it through Origin. I loved the first DA:O so much and it's still one of my favorite all-time games. I actually own a copy of DA2 in Origin but since I won't run Origin anymore I haven't played it. Maybe I'll play it one day on a friend's PC who does use Origin... the game itself looks amazing and seems to be using some of the things I really loved about DA:O.

Not that I often attend game previews, but I believe that most of the time they curate the content specifically, eg. they only show one particular (probably the best) bit of the game.

This did not happen at the Dragon Age event. We were given near-retail code and told to play the game from the start. So what I played is what people starting to play Dragon Age will experience.

I think one of the things that makes Inquisition more enjoyable than Origins or II (at least from what I remember of those games) is the openness. I love exploring things and there seems to be a fair bit of this in Inquisition, even if it's not truly open world. And the combat system, while tricky to master in just 3 hours, feels very solid and well-featured, as I mentioned.

Sounds pretty good. That brings my hopes up for this game.

I understand how this could come across, but I guess it's quite difficult to express how good I thought the game was without sounding like a fanboy.

Obviously I had concerns with the game: it's not perfect. For example the learning curve (as I mentioned) is huge, with BioWare chucking a whole ton of content at you in the first hour or so. This is pretty overwhelming.

But this is an RPG that you're supposed to enjoy for hours so it's not a big deal. I thought Inquisition was really fun and it should please fans of the Dragon Age series, especially Origins.

I have no real burning desire to play games ahead of when they come out. I get invited to play all sorts of stuff and turn most of it down because it's inconvenient to get to (eg. requires plane travel).

I'll be buying Inquisition on the release date just like everyone else. Our allocated review copy will be going to Steve for PC performance testing.

Hope that provides a bit of transparency about this preview.

Well I could of have said: Sounds like a fan and gamer honestly talking about his hobby

I'm confused. I'm not a PC gamer (ps4 only currently), but don't you simply need to put your Origin username and password once the game disc is in your computer? Or is this game download only for pc?

I'm excited and can't wait , DAO is one of the best games I ever played. I thought it was nice to see the author of the article get excited and why not if a game looks great. I'm bored of the cynical "nothings as good as it used to be" attitude that seems to have become fashionable. People harping back to games they haven't played. Every generation of games has its classics and its pile of crap , gaming isn't any worse or better.

I'm not sure if there will be physical media for the game but I'm fairly certain you have to have Origin running anytime you wish to play the game.

Yes it will be just like steam.. any time you want to play it will fire up origin then boot the game... still not sure why some people have such a huge issue with this.. it runs just like steam does

I've explained my issues with this previously in another thread - will link it later when I get some time.

I played both previous DA games and modded them heavily. No mention was made of the ability to edit the game as was included with both previous games. I too am a single player ONLY kind of guy, and don't give a damn about multiplayer, so I mod a lot of my weapons and armor in these games, and when character mods (face, body, etc.) come along or are included I like to add some of those too. It's also good when users can script whole new scenarios like was possible with Skyrim.

In other words, a game I can mod gets almost unlimited replay from me trying new things out with new character types and looks. A game that is more "locked in" gets maybe one play from me and a bad taste in my mouth. So I'm hoping it is as wide open as DA Origins was and a bit better than DA 2 was from a modding standpoint and hoping it rivals Skyrim in that department right out of the box (well OK, right out of the "download"). I also would like it to be available on Steam.

You have any information on that?

I was hopeful after picking this game up that It would be more like DA:O. I was very disappointed, especially after watching some videos prior, detailing how they took extra care for the PC platform.

The controls just plain suck; you can no longer click to move and you have to hold a mouse button to attack, there's no auto attack like in the previous two games. WSAD emulates a joystick for moving around in the tactical view, and you can't even zoom out very far. Very disappointing.

Also the graphics engine with the current Nvidia drivers blows donkey balls. Tons of texture flickering and the cut scenes seem to render at way less than 30 frames. This is on dual GTX 980s.

Uh boy! Sorry to hear that. I am still wondering if they included an editor with the download as that could still go a long way to adding enjoyment to the game. I am in the process of building a new computer for upcoming games (i7 5930 water coooled, 16gig DDR4 2666, Asus Rampage V, two R9 290X XFX in crossfire, etc) and was hoping that would do for the next couple of years. Hopefully it is more attuned to ATI drivers, but both NVidia and ATI take a week or two to produce drivers for new games... maybe your experience will improve once they update. I am also sorry to hear this seems to be a poor port of a console version. I was really looking forward to this game. I'll keep an eye out for any follow up from you and other reviews. Thanks for your reply... it was helpful.
