Icons are gone, help!

    I get those icons for every single program, icons with question marks on them, meaning unknown file. None of the programs have their original pictures on the icons. But they all work when I click on them. Same on the desktop, start menu and in program files.

    Here are some of the things I tried:

    Started safe mode, then restarted.

    Deleted IconCache.db then restarted.

    Increased max iconcache by a registry tweak that adds the option to the folder options.

    Checked this in the registry:
    Hkey_Classes_Root
    ..+ exefile
    ...+ DefaultIcon -> {default}= %1
    It seems normal

    That's about it, does anybody else have any other suggestions?

    Have you tried using the Rebuild Icons option in TweakUI for XP under Repair?

    If you don't have the utility enter tweakui + xp in Google to locate download sites.

    The actions you've already taken might make it not work.
