IE6 loading websites as file.

  1. Hi all,
my college PC had poor IE version (ver. 5). everything was going fine but 2 days ago when it was updated to IE6, it started giving a weird error. whenever i want to go to any site say yahoo or google, IE6 interprets the URL as a file and popsup the SAVE FILE AS window to save the web site. even if a press open it doesn't do anything...the popup just disappears. so most of the sites (90%) are coming as really confused with such an annoying response of IE6. my college pc has NO censorship problems, just simple Winproxy software.

i would be thankful if someone could find a solution to it.

reinstall ie6 and check the advance tab in options settings ok..
scan for the 4 baddies: virus, ad/spy/malware
double check the proxy settings, and lan connections/ connections setting, may need to speak with the admin to help you with that, and also your firewall as well as any real time active scanners
