IM talk During games

  1. schacker99 Newcomer, in training

    Another quick question I had deals the ability to talk over IM while playing a game. My friends and I were able to do that before we got routers, but now we can't seem to be able to connect. Is their a certain router config that we are supposed to be aware of? Does the game matter? We both use linksys wireless routers. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Your routers must have firewalls built in (this is good! stops hackers :)) however its not letting you connect to his computer, and vise-versa. What you need to do is open up the port that AIM uses, so you can connect. To do this connect to your router with internet explorer (where you type in websites) type

    192.168.0.1

    Then type in the correct username and password its set for. Look for Port Forwarding and type in/open up 5190-5191.
