With the GBP being so strong against the dollar at the moment, I'm considering importing a Samsung 172X from the states as it will be approximately 70GBP cheaper than buying it in the UK.

What I'm concenred about is the warranty of the product - would US warranty still be valid in the UK, or would it invalidate it?! Otherwise, would I have to sent it back to the US if I had problems with it?

I'm not sure, I know when I used to work in a electronics store, our warranty's were not valid if people were taking the product outside the United States. I would suggest giving Samsung a call or e-mail directly and see what they say.

You could always register the warranty with an acquanitance in the US, and if needed, fedex it back to the acquaintance if it needs repairs of any sort.
