  1. Hey there, trying to help my sister who is stressed out beyond recognition.

She looks to have a virus..screen goes black after login however you can still use task manager and run commands from there. Safe mode, ect does not do the trick.

    any suggestions? thanks.
Her Norton has expired and hence the reason i believe she got the virus.

Welcome to TechSpot, JonDunbar. If your sister doesn't have a current AV program running, the system will be filled with malware. Not much can be done with the conditions you describe unless she can download the programs to a flash drive, then run the, on the problem computer.

Suggest the first download be an antivirus program:
Both of the following programs are free and known to be good:
    Avira Free
    Avast Home

Please reboot the system after the installation is complete.

Once the programs is installed, you should check for updates immediately and then run a full system scan. This will help to make sure the program is configured and working properly and alert you to any viruses that might be on the system as a result of not having a functional AV.
