Inspiron 1150 won't boot up

Ok, yesterday I was using this computer and all of a sudden it shut off. I was running it on the ac cord. I powered it back up and it booted up and all seemed fine, until it shut off on its own again. This happened several times and I finally gave up.

Today, I powered it up and it booted up and a short time later it shut off again. Now when I hit the power button, the power led comes on and the battery led flashes once and goes off. The fan comes on and it sounds like the hard drive starts up but that is it. It won't do anything else. The fan runs but nothing on the screen and there is no other sound.

Any ideas?

I thought perhaps it was over heating so I checked and the fan was clean and spins freely.

I forgot to mention that it acts the same whether powered up on ac or battery

just a thought have you tried connecting an external monitor to see if your getting an output?? if you dont then could be power board fault but if you do try invertor which lives at bottom of screen..hope this helps
