instalation problems in windows xp

Ok I do not know if I have posted this in the right spot or not but here goes anyway, I was trying to install medal of honor allied assault on my windows xp box the other day and all i can get it to do is open up the first screen when you insert the cd and then i tell it to install the game and it comes up with a catastrophic failure and will not continue, any ideas? Please dont tell me i will have to reload windows cause that would be a real pain to do and get everything i have back on there, but i guess if thats what i have to do then thats whats going to have to be done, was just wondering if anybody had any ideas that i havent thought of thanks
