I installed a Pioneer DVR 1810 writer in my second bay.
Now neither one of my drives work. I'm trying too install the Nero 7 and neither one will read it. Was I suppose too take out the old one first and then put the new one in? Help please.

    i find CS goofy
use slave for one of them and master for the other

Not that it matters to anyone but....

I think all Intel boards are Cable Select.

Cable Select is good, but I thought that if Master and Slave you got some speed increase?
  7. kimsland Ex-TechSpotter

Nope, they updated all hardware a few years ago. CS is now the fastest and the norm

On a really old computer, go Master then Slave

i have my dvd and cdrw on CS since it said atapi not compatible

i have them plugged in the cable as mobo/dvd/cd

right now the only board I have using ide is an hp clone with master slave setup
You would assume a newer board user would not even use ide but sata
best thing is ,for HDD ,try one method then switch ,use what ever is faster
as for optical drives I don't think it matters as long as you know witch one is master for booting purposes
