The old hard drive went dead. I installed a new one. The system utility (BIOS) recognizes the new hard disk. Now how do I install my new Windows XP operating system. The program is on a CD, but the computer will not boot up.
Help!

Hi

To install XP from CD Rom

Install New Drive in Drive bay and ensure jumper is set to Master (most HD's have a legend on the front) ensure HD is connected on the primary channel.

Ensure CD rom is set as Master (again look at the Jumpers) on the secondary channel.

Turn on the PC
Look for message similar to "F2 to enter BIOS \Delete to enter BIOS
Once in BIOS look for the section marked boot order, and make sure CD is set to be the first bootable device.
Place XP CD in CDrom drive,
Exit BIOS.

Now at this point some CD's will boot automatically however some may put up a message saying "press any key to boot from CD.." or similar, press any key if this message appears.

That should do it

Regards
