Both AMD and intel made 486DX2 chips and both were 66 mhz chips. the 486DX5 were 133 mhz

    I'm not 100% sure but I believe there was also a 50MHz 486DX2 processor, then 75 and 100MHz ones were DX4 models.

Wow... it's been a really long time since I heard those names!

    You're are right. Both 486DX and 486DX2-50 are 50MHz cpu chips, 486DX2-66 is 66 MHz and 486DX4-100 is 100MHz.

A DX2 means it was designed to use the 2x multiplier... not that had to be run at that.

    Intel released 3, a DX2-50 and a DX2-66, and a DX2-80
AMD did likewise, Cyrix also did such, as did ST and IBM.

For both DX and SX, intel released 25 and 33mhz chips. There is no non-multiplied 50mhz chip.
