Intel Core i9 would target the high-end desktop market

he might have meant proper as in for normal humans ... for Z270 series chipset... in sane price range ... like for less than 500€. Not some absurd "enthusiast" crap for 1000+€.
They did not say what the price will be, it could be $600 for 8 core to stick it to AMD. Yes I'm sure the 10 core and 12 core will be $1000-1500 dollar range

Core i9!? I bet that's just a strategy, like...

"Sir, the new Ryzen CPUs are just too awsome, we're gonna lose some market share unless we do something quick."

"I know, our next relese shall be called i9, although it's just another i7, but I least we give the impression of a tchnology leap with that."

"Sir, you are awesome, how do you do it?"

lol.

I guess things are slow or sluggish at intel board meetings. So lets come-up with a new brainstorm we'll make CPU a lot faster along with larger pipes, cache, thread, PCIe etc.. I glad they're trying to make the CPU push the limits. It's about time though, but is this going to be another 32/64-bit CPU, they were suppose to release a 64-bit/128-bit CPU and later 128-bit/256-bit. Never heard anything else. AMD will come up with their 12/24 core/threads for DDR4 memory. Look forward to all of this. Since I spend part of my life on CPU speeds overclocking an etc. Time for changes. I am still waiting for Transparent Tech to hit the market still no signs of that progress. Hopefully 2020 or 2030 at this rate. PCs sales sluggish and tablet sales have fallen as well. Everyone on their cell phones more they're replacement of so many things. I like the i3 and i7 core seems quick to me along with AMD APU cores which I have 2 of those. Again progress is a good thing not a bad one.
