having a problem with setting up a internet connection.

modem is recognized by computer.

when trying to setup connection the only option is for broadband, not dial up and that is what i need.

opened IE and cannot change the setting for always dial default. It is stuck on never dial a connection and cannot change.

any thoughts would be appreciated.

edit:

when trying to add dial up setting.

received error msg: error 711: configuration error preventing this connection.

any other thoughts.

Did you install the drivers for the modem? The fact that Windows finds "new hardware" doesn't mean it knows what to do with it. See if you have something under modems in Device Manager.

Try creating a new dialup connection in Network Connections.

i've tried all that.... still no success trying to get the modem to work. I don't know if the modem is compatible with win xp or what. It worked for some time but now my av program won't start. maybe a virus? any thoughts now..
