Dell system running with Windows XP, last Friday Dell came out to fix the dead CD/DVD drive. Once fixed, everytime we would try to connect to broadband internet explorer would not open, when running diagnostics it would say WinSock error. When running in safemode it would connect to some sites, but not to any email accounts. Saturday, We reinstalled windows xp, now we can not connect at all to internet from that computer. We do have a laptop and it is connecting fine. So i don't think it s the connection. THANKS IN ADVANCE. Also i already re-installed the linksys adapter and no change

After reinstalling XP did you install all the drivers, in particular the network card driver?

Please advise what sort of linksys adapter you have?
If it is a wireless adapter you should install the linksys adapter software. This will take you through the process of finding the wireless network and logging in plus creating a profile for automatic connection in the future.
If it is a standard NIC, go to it in Network connections, right click and go to properties and then go to internet protocol (TCP/IP) select and properties and confirm the IP and DNS values are on automatic.
