invalid back web

when i start up windows, the first thing that comes up is a pop up saying Invalid Back Web application id "7288971" anyone know what this means?

im going to assume that it stops your computer from running, because if it doesn't make a difference, then... well i dont know what.

i checked out google and read up on it a bit, this is how you disable it.
1. click on the start menu and click the "run..." button
2. type in "msconfig" into the box that it opens
3. go into the startup tab and disable it

thats how you disable it, but i haven't found how to remove it

apparently it's spyware, run some antivirus software (if you have norton, get rid of it and buy some better stuff such as avg), also it might be a good idea to get the free microsoft program windows defender

give this a go, to eliminate any warez and viriis:

https://www.techspot.com/vb/topic47014.html

are you by any chance running logitech devices or logitech desktop messenger by any chance? try updating the software at the logitech website..

btw.. backweb is commonly known to be associated with logitech's update software like windows update service for windows... nothing to fret unless its realy a dodgy app...

that log might be a problem howard because i haven't installed it yet, i am currently dealing with my virus problems. once i am done with that, then i'll get the log stuff on my comp.

Following the above instructions, will help you to get rid of many types of infections.

Once I have your HJT log, I can look to see what(if any) needs to be removed.

Regards Howard :)

it's gonna take me a while to do all this because i have dial up and i have work during the day. but i'll do everything it tells me. it might be a week or 2 from now.

That`s ok mate, no problem.

hey howard, once i download all that stuff onto my comp., what all do u recommend i keep? i have avast, SpyBot: S&D, Super Ad Blocker and i guess it came with anti spyware with it, and soon to have AVG.

If you are getting AVG, either uninstall Avast, or don`t have them both running at the same time. If you have more than one antivirus programme active at the same time, it can cause conflicts.

Here`s some security programmes I recommend you keep on your computer.

Ewido/Spyware Blaster/SS&D/Ad-Aware se/Ccleaner/AVG and/or Avast, but not running at the same time.

The rest of the utilities can be got rid of, once your system is clean. In any case, a lot of them are specialised to deal with certain infections.

Regards Howard :)

AVG and Ewido didn't dowload all the way because it says it had corrupted files. here is what avg said, "CRC failed in files.dat Unexpected end of archive" and i tried dowloading that twice and the same thing happened. and for ewido it just says it either had corrupted file or bad download. but i was able to dowload hijackthis. so can i just run that instead of doing all in step 4? i ran spybot:s&d and there was a anti spyware that came with my pop up blocker when i downloaded that and i also have avast running. i was able to run vundofix and look2me-destroyer. vundo didn't find anything, but look2me did.

and also howard, how do i move highjackthis to C:\Program Files\HJT? i dowloaded it through firefox and i think it automatically downloads it to the desktop.

hey howard, should i just do hp recovery? i didn't know what i was doing so i might of accidently deleted some files needed on my computer. is there like a list of all the files needed on your computer that an anti-virus scan will pick up?

what type of list are you refering to?

i think to move the hjt file from desktop to c:/program files/hjt is a simple cut/copy and paste, unless its an installer which then you can specify where it is to be installed.

if you do hp recovery do remember that it will wipe your hdd and make it like new, so you may want to save your important data onto a media of sorts.

hope that helped..

wat i was talking about is just a list of the files and programs that your computer can't run properly without that an antivurus will pick up. and the list will help people like me who don't know what files to keep on the computer. too bad there isn't an antivirus program that won't pick up on the files your computer needs to operate right.

and i figured out how to dowload it to different stuff, thanks though.

when i did hp recovery, i saved everything to cd's, and oddly enough when it was done, everything was still there.

there are probably hundreds of files for windows to run.. the only way to check i guess is to google each name, which is tiresome at best... AV software should be going through the system folders by default, filtering through for virii and other nasties, not checking if the system file is the correct version or type.. thats for the sfc /scannow command (with a winxp disc) is for.. (well, at least reverting it back to original staus)

i'm realy not to familiar with hp recovery so i'm just going on an educated guess... theoreticaly it should either wipe and reinstall windows plus its hp software or like a windows repair, write a new registry and fix dodgy system files...

well thank you. i was just asking for a list because some people here on this site say to watch out what you delete when you scan with like spybot:s&d. so i was just being cautius.

thats cool..

did you know that Spybot S&D has a forum on their website, that you can also search through known false positives and real positives tested and tried by their own experts, as well as some explainations to what it does if any....

but google and the search function is your friend in any case.... as well as asking around :D

ok, thank you. if a mod or someone comes along on this thread, they can delete it if they want to, i'm done with this one.

We don`t delete threads, unless there`s a good reason to do so.

I take it you`ve no intentions of posting a HJT log?

Obviously that`s up to you.

Regards Howard :)

i can't post a log because when i tried to download the virus scans that ya'll mentioned atleast 2 of them for you to download, some files show up corrupted when it's done download. so i can't do all what ya'll have asked.

If your system is really screwed up, maybe you should consider backing up your important data and reformatting and reinstalling from scratch.

Regards Howard :)
