IoSafe is known for making disaster-proof data storage devices and at this year’s CES the company didn’t disappoint with another over-the-top introduction of its latest range. Dubbed Rugged Portable, the drives come in both SSD and HDD variants and are encased inside a solid billet of aluminum or titanium that can withstand even the harshest of treatments.

During its presentation, which you can watch on the video embedded below, ioSafe was able to demonstrate how the Rugged Portable Drive retained its functionality despite being submerged in water and hit by a 12-gauge shotgun blast… six times. Add to that being crush-resistant up to 5,000 lbs, working at an altitude of 30,000 feet, shielding your data from continuous exposure to UV, blowing sand, blowing dust, rain, salt fog, icing or freezing rain for up 24 hours and you’ve got a drive that’s extremely difficult to break, even if you try.

The HDD version will be available $149 for 250GB of storage to $399 for 1TB. The flash-based model will offer sizes ranging from 256GB to 512GB, starting at $1,299, while both should offer USB 3.0 or FireWire 800 connectivity plus one-year free support from ioSafe’s data recovery service.

This is EXACTLY what I've been looking for!

I fire shotguns, M16s and dunk my PC components under water every second day

Thank christ ioSafe had the ingenious insight, to craft such a high calibur and useful drive case!

Perfect for any more deployments to Iraq or Afghanistan. None of my laptops or external hard drives have lasted long there.

Yes, but they didn't show Chuck Norris vs. Hard drive

Nothing is Chuck Norris proof, period! :D

Still, can see it having some rather useful military uses.

Failing that, you can wow your mates my shooting it with your 12 bore and then still watching a movie from it afterwards... The worlds safest drive for housing your porn collection indeed! :haha:
