IPv6 goes live at ICANN

As you may know, currently we are using the IPv4 TCP/IP addressing system, which has a - well, lets just say "finite" - number of addresses. In fact, new addresses are becoming something of a rare commodity and we all know that mobile phones, PDAs, kitchen sinks and dishwashers will all need IP addresses soon.

That's why I was very pleased to hear this news:

"Vinton Cerf of the Internet Corp. for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) said the next-generation protocol, IPv6, had been added to its root server systems, making it possible for every person or device to have an Internet protocol address."
