Is Duo core 2 really better?

What are the advantages of a dual core processor?

Im running a 3.4 Ghz pentium HT its clocked at 3.41 ghz and runs perfect.

Im wondering if its worth it to upgrade to core 2 Duo.

It seems that for the prices are high for 2.8 ghz core 2 duo

What is the advantage of say a E6700 over clocked to 3.4 as opposed to

just a 3.40 with HT clocked at 3.41 ghz

Also Iv heard of some crazy clock speeds from core 2 duo, how high can these things be clocked?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I've seen a low end c2duo at 4Ghz. I believe on a phase change cooler. My brother also has his on a tec at 3.95. I'm running a tec cooler on my quad 2.6 overclocked to 3.5 . The performance difference is phenominal over your Ht p4, your HT just makes your computer pair information as though you were running 2 cpus to do the work load, but this was really a trashy try by intel, good idea, just put together wrong. In many benchmarks under heavy load the lower end c2duo could do a little more than your p4,

regardless of overclocking ability, the lowest end core 2 duo beats the pants off of a 3.8ghz p4. Its just way better. http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html?modelx=33&model1=453&model2=433&chart=174
