Is there a "BUG" in Atapi Controller?

The Event Viewer shows that I am suddenly getting Errors for Atapi, Event 9, even though I do not have a CD in the CD-RW nor, to my knowledge, are any programs/processes/services running which would be trying to access the CD-RW. The CD-RW is in the boot path, so I know access is attempted at each boot, but the error never occurs then.

The error report shows: ATAPI; EVENT 9; THE DEVICE,\IDE\IDE PORT 0, DID NOT RESPOND WITHIN THE TIMEOUT PERIOD. (IO_ERR_TIMEOUT) The device, %1, did not respond within the timeout period. (The attempt to read or write data timed out.)

Research on the web indicated that there is a "bug" in ATAPI involving the SP2 version of the driver, v5.10.2600.2180. Here is a link which discusses a solution: http://erpman1.tripod.com/current/atapi-xp.html. Has anyone else experienced this problem? If so, any ideas for a solution?
