Is video output from laptop to tv exclusive to WMP?

Hi there,

I just purchased a super duper svideo with audio out cable from svideo.com and hooked my old laptop up to my large tv. I get great playback through Windows Media Player but cannot play any other content (ex. streaming video from internet, through DivX player, etc.)

Does anyone know of a workaround for this? I appreciate any help, thanks!

It shouldn't be exclusive to it. It probably has something to do with video overlay settings, so try changing the video display settings in the player applications (from overlay to VMR-7 or VMR-9, for example, if such things are available).

"cannot play" means what? The programs crash? The screen turns black?

Let me clarify,..

It doesn't transfer to the tv, the screen just stays blank. It plays on the computer when I use DivX player but doesn't show up on the tv. With WMP and Realplayer it plays on the television. However, when I open a video file with DiVx on my computer, it doesn't show up on the tv. I've checked for overlay settings in the DivX player but there are none.
