run windows update, selecting all updates in each category. repeat until there are no updates to choose from.

Directx :"cabinet file cannot be trusted"

    Hello

First timer here. This is fyi ...
I too had above prob -trying to update directx .
The link below somewhere has 4 methods to try- reboot after each one to determine right method. Then install directx.

    I have Winxp on sp1.
    Downloaded dxwebsetup zip file.

    What worked for me was..

    ****
    1. Go to start menu, then Run
    2. Type in cmd
    3. Type the following, pressing enter after each line. (press OK if prompted)
    regsvr32 /u softpub.dll
    regsvr32 /u wintrust.dll
    regsvr32 /u initpki.dll
    regsvr32 /u dssenh.dll
    regsvr32 /u rsaenh.dll
    regsvr32 /u gpkcsp.dll
    regsvr32 /u sccbase.dll
    regsvr32 /u slbcsp.dll
    regsvr32 /u mssip32.dll
    regsvr32 /u cryptdlg.dll
    exit

    THEN

    Restart the computer.
    Go to start, then run.
    Type in cmd.
Type the following, pressing enter after each line:

    regsvr32 softpub.dll
    regsvr32 wintrust.dll
    regsvr32 initpki.dll
    regsvr32 dssenh.dll
    regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
    regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
    regsvr32 sccbase.dll
    regsvr32 slbcsp.dll
    regsvr32 mssip32.dll
    regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll
    exit

    ******
Try using one of methods I'm sure there's a fix 4 ya sumwhere.
Let me know when you've sorted it.

Note: I found running directx setup from pc while offline produced a msg during install "no connection to internet.." appeared -once connected the install completed successfully. So if u eventually get this msg u know that the "cabinet.." error has been resolved.

You need to install service pack 2 in order to install DirectX 9.0C, when you install service pack 2 9.0C is automatically installed.
