JS/Downloader Virus infection

It seems that this is either a false positive, or, one of the websites you`re visiting has a trojan embedded in it`s html code.

I suggest you carefully see which website(if any), you`re visiting when this bugger pops up.

If you can identify the website, then you should contact the site admin and then avoid it if possible.

Let me know what you discover.

Yes, I'll monitor the sites religiously. I am living in a hotel in India using their server but I think it started before coming here, possibly just after I visited Sofia and used my computer from the Hilton there.

Also, don't know if this is significant, but ZoneAlarm keeps refusing my computer access to 192.168.1.1. IE is attempting this on its own. I'm oblivious to what's happening until the Zone Alarm window pops up to tell me what's happening. Any thoughts on that one? Also, when AVG catches JS/Downloader and I ask for more info, it's not in their encyclopedia of viruses. Finally, how are most other problems with JS/Downloader resolved? Is there some definite resolution or is like in this case?

Thanks,

Bill from Bombay

When Zonealarm pops up telling you it`s refused access to 192.168.1.1. Tick the box that say not to inform you of that alert again. Zonealarm will continue to block it, but won`t keep popping up with that message.

There`s very little concrete info on the JS/Downloader. Like I said, this is either a false positive, or it`s caused by some website you`re visiting that has been attacked and has the trojan embedded in it`s html code.

Have AVG delete it and remove it from the virus vault.

Then, try and see what website it is you visit, when it pops up.

Dear Howard:

I've spent an inordinate amount of time cruising the net, more than I would normally, to see where, if any, the Downloader bug likes. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for his appearance. I go to my trusted, reputable sites and there he is. I go to some off-the-wall-sites and there he is. Some days he's with me frequently, other days he's taking a breather. It's got me baffled.

I want to thank you for all your help. Please keep me informed if you learn any more about this guy and how to get rid of him. Thanks.

Regards,

Bill

Dear Gentlemen:

One final note on JS/Downloader Agent: I removed AVG Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware and installed Zone Alarm's Internet Suite and haven't heard hide nor hair of the little bugger, JS Downloader since. What do you make of that?

Many thanks for all your help these past few days. I enjoyed learning all about cleaning computer hard drives.

Yours truly,

Bill

That makes me think it`s a false positive.

Thanks for letting me know.

I suggest you contact Grisoft the makers of AVG And let them know.

Regards Howard :)
