Discussions involving solar-powered, electric vehicles as of late have revolved around Tesla but that’s not the only automaker dabbling in the field.
Fisker Automotive, if you recall, was one of the first to produce a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. When much of its inventory was destroyed in Hurricane Sandy, however, the company filed for bankruptcy. The company’s assets were purchased by Chinese auto parts specialist Wanxiang Group a few months later. Under new ownership, its name was changed to Karma Automotive.
On Thursday, Karma Automotive “e-revealed” pictures and video of its upcoming Karma Revero. If you’re thinking the car looks a bit familiar, you’re not wrong. As Engadget points out, it’s identical to the former Fisker Karma albeit with some improvements.
Karma Automotive notes that it’ll be the first vehicle sold in the US with a solar panel roof that’ll help supply power. The company says the car also features a completely redesigned infotainment system and “super-charging” capabilities. Outside of these few changes, it’s unclear what else (if anything) Karma Automotive has done to the existing platform.
Jim Taylor, chief revenue officer of Karma Automotive, said that serving a mass market is not, and never will be, their purpose. Instead, the Revero is for a discerning group of individuals who desire beautiful, clean vehicles and a memorable ownership experience.
The Revero will be available for the general public to pre-order starting September 8.
