Kaser Storagevault 250GB Error

My Kaser Storagevault 250GB is giving me errors when I try to copy more than about 12,000 files to one directory.. is this a limitation?

What OS and filesystem (hint: see disk manager) ?
How is the copy performed; surely not drag-n-drop?

While it should not be a problem for the OS and NTFS, you may find it helpful
to subdivide the contents into subfolders for several reasons, eg Monthly files.
