Camera maker Eastman Kodak filed suit this week against Sony, saying the Japanese company's digital cameras and camcorders infringe on its patents.

Although it's not clear by this article at CNet what is Kodak claiming property of, a company's spokeman did note in regards to this suit that Kodak has more than "1,000 patents worldwide that relate to digital cameras, including patents covering CMOS (complementary metal-oxide semiconductors) and CCD (charge-coupled device) image sensors as well as emerging technologies such as cell phone cameras".

If Kodak was to succeed with this lawsuit, more than likely other big camera makers would have to face similar claims, the article also details that a few years ago Kodak secured licenses from Olympus and Sanyo.

Kodak is hurting big time because they got caught sleeping while other companies worked towards newer technology...leyoffs, stck getting hit - so they whine...unbelievable.
