    Hi,

my HP pavilion laptop has a 40GB toshiba HDD and i have started getting read error or disk not found messages at the start up. if the laptop is kept in the vertical position the HDD does not seem to have problems. does anyone here know whether the problem is from the HDD which is about to fail or a laptop connector problem when such a thing occurs.

    thanks for your help

mor'en likly the drive while laying in norm position is getting hot and ready to but the dust or if that model has venting fo drive ,fan not running.
standing machine up keeps it a little cooler
last drive I fixed had a warped board issue when it got hot the contacts moved away from hard drive.
I had a ,4 yr old seagate ,customer oem, and upgraded cause emachines had a throw it away policy on hardware.
I kept it and has now been running for almost 1 yr
