laptop to Flat Screen TV is out of whack....

  1. when i put a VGA cable from my laptop to my Flat Screen TV, my background shows up on the TV, but the icons and start bar doesnt show up. I was fiddling around with it and discovered that if i pull a window all the way to the right on my screen on my laptop it would start to show up on the left side of the TV.

I was wondering if any1 could tell me if its possible to have the full screen of my laptop (icons, start bar, etc.) on my TV without me pulling the windows i want to the right. Its not a big deal, but it would be more convenient. Thanks for all your help.

Yes, the default multihead setup is to stretch the desktop.

Look around in your (advanced) display options for a mirror or clone option. The exact name and location of the thing depends on your specific display drivers.
