Lightning strike = no Internet connection on main desktop...?

Ok, gotcha.... Thank you guys sooo much for all the help!! I have a good idea of what to do now, I'll have to order one of these and see if I can make it work!

I'll letcha know what happens! And again, thank you!!

:)

A few more thoughts,
1. Take care to avoid static discharge while you are working. Always ground yourself before touching any parts. also Make sure your hands are clean and dry. sweat and "oil" can be a problem.
2. When you reinstall your old cpu and fan in the new board, you will want to clean the cpu and apply new thermal paste. (This is available in many places... Newegg, TigerDirect, Microcenter etc.) Carefully follow the directions.
3. Be careful with the seating of your ram. It will only go in in one direction. And it might not hurt to use a "pink pearl" eraser to clean the contacts first.
4. Carefully tag your connectors so that you can be sure you put them back in the right locations on the new board.

We'll look for your update! Have fun.

===Another option short of replacing motherboard... requires usb===
If you don't want to spend the money on the motherboard, there is a cheaper way to get network back, as long as you still have usb available!
There are usb wifi adapters, and usb RJ45 LAN adapters. Probably either would cost less than $50.

See for example...

Wow... I like the usb option... I just ordered one :) Much cheaper than replacing the motherboard, although at this point I was sorta looking forward to giving it a try!

I'll let you know how the usb adapter works once it gets here!
